Teen accused of stabbing girl inside Wegmans takes plea deal

A Henrietta teenager, accused of stabbing and trying to murder his friend inside the Calkins Road Wegmans, pled guilty today.

Kevin Minemier pled guilty to attempted murder and thee counts of assault. The victim was his friend Nicole Bean. (Nicole is now in college in Maryland).

Minemier faces a maximum of 20 years in prison. (Sentencing is November 10th).

Rush-Henrietta school district to honor five graduates

The Rush-Henrietta School District will honor five of its graduates by inducting them into the Rush-Henrietta Alumni Council Hall of Fame.

They five will be inducted at a ceremony at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Senior High School football field, 1799 Lehigh Station Road.

Here’s a little bit about each inductee:

Michael King, Ph.D., class of 1991
Dr. King is a professor at Cornell University where his research focuses on the study of how blood cells and cancer cells in the bloodstream stick to each other and communicate with the vessel wall. This microscopic behavior is important in many biomedical processes such as blood clotting and thrombosis, inflammation, and the spread of cancer to different organs.
Dr. King joined Cornell University in 2008 after six years at the University of Rochester. He has made significant research contributions that potentially could help millions of people. Dr.

Irondequoit woman suffers life-threatening injuries in overnight crash

An Irondequoit woman is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a crash on Jefferson Road overnight. The crash happened shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday at the ramp from Route 15 to Jefferson Road.

Monroe County Sheriff's Deputies say 27-year-old Nicole Stevens was speeding, lost control of her car, left the road, hit a curb and then crashed head-on into a pole.

Deputies say Stevens was unconscious in the vehicle and was taken to Strong Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. The investigation into the crash is on-going.

Two men arrested after several items stolen from cars in Lima

Two Monroe County men are facing charges following a rash of vehicle break-ins in Livingston County.

21-year-old Ethan Griffin of Scottsville and 19-year-old Andrew Stedge of Henrietta are charged with felony grand larceny and petite larceny.

The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office says it received several calls Monday morning from Lima residents who said a number of items had been stolen from their cars.

The stolen property ranged from wallets to a snowboard and an air compressor. Griffin and Stedge were arrested in Scottsville Monday afternoon. Most of the stolen items were recovered at Griffin’s home.

The two men were arraigned in Avon Court and remanded to the custody of the sheriff on $5,000 cash bail. They are due back in court on October 12.

Big names at RIT's Brick City Homecoming & Family Weekend

RIT's Brick City Homecoming & Family Weekend this year includes a performance by actor and comedian Kevin Hart; a talk by actor, director and author Michael J. Fox; and the return of RIT men’s hockey as the Tigers face St. Lawrence University at Blue Cross Arena in downtown Rochester.

Hart will perform on Friday at 9 p.m at RIT’s Gordon Field House and Activities Center. Fox will speak to students, faculty, staff, alumni and guests as the Horton Distinguished Speaker at 2 p.m on Saturday at RIT’s Gordon Field House and Activities Center. The RIT men’s hockey homecoming game will be held at 7:05 p.m on Sunday at the Blue Cross Arena.

Hart is a standup comedian and has landed roles in several feature films, including Scary Movie 3, The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Fool’s Gold.

The Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra announces its 41st Season-Opening Concert at Hochstein

I am thrilled to post the 2011/2012 season schedule for the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (RPYO), a symphony orchestra comprised of 105 dedicated young musicians in grades eight through 12 from around the greater Rochester area.  Three concerts, including its annual Side-By-Side performance with select members of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, plus an appearance on WXXI’s “Backstage Pass,” mark the orchestra’s 41st season. This season is a rich exploration of orchestral music from 19th Century Europe and 20th Century America, led by the RPYO's musical director and conductor Dr. David Harman.

I have a keen interest in this.  Not only is the music phenomenal, but my son is part of the RPYO as its tuba player. 

Rush Town Board to meet Wednesday

The Rush Town Board is expected to meet at 7 p.m. on Oct. 12.

There is expected to be a public hearing on the 2012 preliminary budget.
