RIT to hold annual Relay for Life event on Saturday

The Colleges Against Cancer Club at the Rochester Institute of Technology will hold its Relay For Life for the American Cancer Society this weekend. The 12-hour overnight event will be held at the main entrance of RIT, “The Bowl” this Saturday.

More than 300 participants have already pre-registered for the event and so far, $12,000 has already been raised.

Henrietta Applebee's "calling" for sports fans and collectors

Celebrity photos, sports items and local memorabilia are among dozens of items that customers can bid on at the Applebee’s in Henrietta.

The restaurant is preparing for its upcoming remodel and items currently on the walls in the restaurant will be up for auction. The auction goes until Sunday, May 5 at 5 p.m.

All proceeds will benefit the local Make-A-Wish Foundation chapter to help grant the wishes of children diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition.

All bids must be made through the Applebee's restaurant manager on-duty and items must be paid for in cash. Customers have until Monday, May 6 to pick up purchased items.

Henrietta parents coordinate “Proceeds For Preemies” in honor of twins

Parents, who lost their twins as a result of a premature birth, are giving back to the March of Dimes.

Chris and Michelle Hayes, of Henrietta, lost their twins, Caiden and Kaylie, as a result of premature birth on April 24, 2011. They have planned a event, "Proceeds for Preemies" for April 25 at the Lovin' Cup in Henrietta with live music, beer and wine tasting, raffles and a guest bartender.

All proceeds will be donated to the March of Dimes to help fund their efforts to end prematurity. Donations can also be made through PayPal to ProceedsForPreemies@gmail.com.

The March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health.

RIT to host St. Baldrick's Foundation head-shaving event

RIT will host a St. Baldrick's Foundation signature head-shaving event to raise funds and awareness for lifesaving childhood cancer research.

The event will be April 4 at 12:00p.m. at RIT's CSD Student Development Center.

More than 40 participants have registered to shave their heads to support the foundation's mission. The event is hoping to raise $15,000 for the St. Baldrick's Foundation.

Karen's Walk and 5K Run to benefit URMC heart failure research

The 11th annual Karen’s Walk and 5K Run will be held on Saturday, April 6 at RIT’s Nathaniel Rochester Field.

The annual walk is organized by the Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity at RIT and is held in memory of Karen Decker who died of postpartum cardiomyopathy a few weeks after giving birth to her first child.

The Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity has raised more than $26,700 for the Karen Decker Research for Cardiomyopathy Fund at the University of Rochester Medical Center.
